The hot new 2010 5 Series offers drivers a combination of luxury, sporty feel, and family-friendly safety. The technology for this year's model is, of course, more refined and improved since last year, if that's possible. Trim levels for the new 5 Series include the 528i, turbo-charged 535i, and powerful 550i. The 550i features a 360 hp 4.8-liter, 32-valve V-8 engine coupled with rear wheel drive. The 528i and 535i come with either rear wheel drive of xDrive all-wheel-drive, which feeds power to both axles as the situation requires and automatically adapts to the terrain you are driving on. The 528i comes with a 230 horsepower 3.0-liter dual overhead cam (DOHC), 24-valve inline 6-cylinder engine, while the 535i comes with a 3.0-liter dual overhead cam (DOHC), 24-valve inline turbocharged 6-cylinder engine with twin-turbo technology and piezo direct injection, which bumps the horsepower up to 300. Direct ignition and 6-speed manual transmission come standard on all trims.

The excellent assortment of handling and braking features add to the 5 Series' appeal. Consumer Guide says, "The 5-Series' ride and handling combination is among the world's best." Aluminum double-pivot front suspension, front and rear subframes, and 4-link integral rear suspension help to cut down on vehicle weight. The 5 Series also has front and rear anti-roll stabilizer bars, twin-tube gas-pressure shock absorbers, and dynamic stability control, which can recognize the onset of a skid and quickly stabilize the vehicle. Brake Fade Compensation, Start-off Assistant, Brake Drying, Brake Stand-by, and Dynamic Traction Control also come standard. Dynamic Traction Control increases slip at the drive wheels in order to ensure the best traction on uneven surfaces. 4-wheel ventilated anti-lock disc brakes (ABS) - With Dynamic Brake Control (DBC) Vehicle-speed-sensitive variable-assist (Servotronic), variable-ratio power steering Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) - Including Brake Fade Compensation, Start-off Assistant, Brake Drying, and Brake Stand-by features; with Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) The brake/steering features include vehicle-speed-sensitive variable-assist, variable-ratio power steering and 4-wheel ventilated anti-lock disc brakes with Dynamic Brake Control. Dynamic Brake control is a safety mechanism which improves braking effort in emergency "panic stop" situations.

The beautiful exterior of the 5 Series comes equipped with halogen free-form fog lights, power adjustable, heated, side-view mirrors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, stylish chrome line exterior trim, metallic paint, and automatic headlight control, which means that your headlights will come on automatically when it gets dark enough outside.

The audio system will have everyone moving with an anti-theft AM/FM stereo, a CD player, an auxiliary audio input, 10 speakers, Auto-Store, an FM diversity antenna system, and MP3 capabilities. The seating features for the new 5 Series include 10-way power front seats with power head restraints and a memory system for the driver's seat, side-view mirrors, and steering wheel position. A dual center console compartment with a phone handset holder also comes standard.

Of course, the new 5 Series is brimming with new convenience features that will make driver and passengers happy. An impact sensor can protect you in the case of an accident by disconnecting the alternator from the battery, disconnecting the fuel pump and starter from battery, turning on the hazard lights, turning on the interior lights and unlocking the doors.
