2010 BMW M5 Series

The new 2010 M5 Series has all of the graces of the BMW M Series class. With a 500 horsepower 5.0-liter, 40-valve V-10 engine and M-tuned suspension that brings the best out of every road, the 2010 M5 Series is ready to deliver an awe-inspiring performance. It comes as little surprise that Car and Driver magazine called it, "the most desirable sedan in the world at any price." Performance and efficiency features that come standard on this elegant powerhouse include 10 individual electronically controlled throttle butterflies, Digital Motor Electronics with on-board diagnostics, a 7-speed Sequential Manual Gearbox with Drivelogic and a 3-way catalytic converter with a heated oxygen sensor. Digital Motor Electronics monitors and manages all important engine functions using sensors to constantly check data. DME ensures optimum engine performance under all conditions.

The handling, ride, and brake features on the new M5 grant you the confidence to take the roads less traveled. Dynamic Stability Control with M Dynamic Mode is a standard feature, as is all season traction with an M variable differential lock. DSC prevents a loss of traction in extreme situations when the vehicle may be about to slip off course. Combined with M Dynamic Mode, DSC gives BMW enthusiasts free range to explore the limits by increasing drive slip for both longitudinal and transverse dynamics at all speed levels. The new M5 Series also comes with independent suspension with M calibration and includes stiffened dampers, springs, and anti-roll bars; and modified rear axle geometry. Vehicle-speed-sensitive variable-assist power steering with M Driving Dynamics Control is also included. The brakes are 4-wheel BMW M vacuum-assisted ventilated, cross-drilled, anti-lock compound disc brakes.

Exterior speed, grace, and style is matched with interior luxury in the new M5 Series, which comes with Merino leather upholstered 18-way power-adjustable BMW M sport front seats that include adjustable seatback side bolsters, headrests, 4-way lumbar support, 2-way thigh support, and a 2-setting memory system for both front seats.

Besides Logic7 Surround Sound, the audio system comes with an anti-theft AM/FM stereo CD system with MP3 capabilities, 13 upgraded speakers (including 2 subwoofers), Digital Sound Processing, Radio Data System (shows artist and station information), Auto-Store, and a 3-channel FM diversity antenna.

The ultra-sleek exterior of the M5 has certainly come a long way since the boxy 1988 version and so has the exterior technology. Advanced features include Xenon adaptive headlights, an M Mobility System with liftime BMW tire assistance, and heated side-view mirrors with electrochromic auto-dimming, power fold-up feature, and automatic tilt-down of the passenger's side-view mirror when the vehicle is shifted into reverse gear. Xenon adaptive headlights can actually rotate to turn with the vehicle's wheels to ensure that you get a good view of what's around the bend. Other dynamic exterior features include a headlight washing system, heated windshield washer jets and door locks, rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic headlight control, and Park Distance Control with front and rear sensors. Park Distance Control makes parking in tight spots easier by warning you when you're getting too close to another vehicle. The system uses ultrasonic sensors embedded in the vehicle's bumper and a series of warning tones to tell you how close you're getting. Automatic headlight control means that your headlights turn on automatically when it gets dark out.

If you think you might need it, it comes standard inside the new M5 Series. The interior comfort and convenience features include automatic climate control, 3-stage heated front seats, and a power tilt and telescopic steering wheel with automatic tilt-up. The power windows come with key-off and "one-touch" up and down operation, an anti-trapping feature, opening from remote, and closing from exterior lock. You'll also enjoy a 2-way power glass moonroof with a remote. Other convenience features that come standard include a remote control key, a glove compartment with a rechargeable take-out flashlight, ground-illuminating lights in the door handles, an integrated 3-button Universal garage-door opener, a heated driver's door lock and rear window defroster, and a power outlet in the trunk, front passenger's footwell, and center console.

The 2010 M5 Series includes an M multi-function leather-wrapped sport steering wheel with SMG paddles, M Drive function, and cruise control. Other intstruments and controls features include a start/stop button, an external temperature display, a voice command system, and vehicle and key memory. The MDrive button on the steering wheel allows the driver to save their favorite driving settings.

Various safety features comprised on the new M5 include BMW Assist with Bluetooth wireless technology for hands-free calling, a remote keyless entry security alarm system, automatic front safety belt pretensioners, and a front and rear-seat Head Protection System. The air bags include front door-mounted side-impact air bags, and a driver's and passenger's front airbag supplemental restraint system with advanced technology such as dual-threshold deployment, dual-stage deployment, and front-passenger seat sensors designed to prevent unnecessary airbag deployment.
