BMW Introduces Seamless Integration of Amazon Alexa
The BMW Group recently announced that all BMW models from mid-2018 will feature seamless integration of the highly versatile Amazon Alexa voice-controlled personal assistant, allowing owners to access a plethora of services, entertainment features and shopping facilities during their commute.
BMW Connected for Alexa has been available since September of 2016, allowing users in the United States, Germany and the United Kingdom to control their BMW from the comfort of home or to ask Alexa to check their vehicle’s system information. Alexa also helps check appointments, routes and departures through the BMW Connected mobility agenda; adding Alexa to the car now makes it possible to access functions used at home while owners are on the road.
Now if customers are out for a night on the town and decide that they want to see a movie, they can simply ask Alexa what’s playing; they also can use Alexa to place an order if they need to pick something up on the way home.
In a press release, Dieter May, Senior Vice President Digital Services and Business Models at the BMW Group, commented, “By making this step of integrating Alexa into our models from mid-2018, BMW and MINI will form a more intrinsic part of our customers’ digital lifestyles. Voice control first featured in BMW Group cars many years ago, and we are now enhancing its functionality by adding a digital ecosystem, which will open up all sorts of new possibilities that customers can access quickly, easily and safely from their car.”
