Highlighting the Exciting BMW Concept Z4 Roadster
News is breaking about the BMW Concept Z4, with the roadster appearing to indicate a new direction for the company in more ways than one. Developed in cooperation with Toyota, the Concept Z4 joins with the new 8-series in indicating a fresh design direction in BMW.
With a throwback shark-nose front and large vents behind the front wheels, the vehicle appears to slope dramatically backward. While the body looks extremely angular, that’s just an illusion — there actually isn’t a single flat spot or line that doesn’t feature a subtle curve. At the rear, the rounded end emphasizes hockey-stick taillights that resemble those found on the i8.
BMW hasn’t yet divulged what engine will power the production Z4, but it’s probably that it will be the same standard 2.0-liter four-cylinder that’s found on the current model. The odds are good that a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six will be an available upgrade. Most likely, the vehicle will come with a six-speed manual transmission with an eight-speed automatic transmission also available.
The instrument cluster and center stack both direct towards the driver, and are placed near eye level for ease of reading. We expect the rest of the concept’s interior will likely change in its transformation to a production vehicle, so we’re looking forward to seeing what other innovations make the final model.
