IIHS Names the 2017 BMW 5 Series a Top Safety Pick +
Earlier this year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) recognized BMW's commitment to automotive safety by rating the 2017 BMW 5 Series a “Top Safety Pick +.”
The 2017 BMW 5 Series earned the rating with its performance in the standard IIHS crash tests — small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints– while an optional front crash prevention system earned a rating of “Superior” and the headlights received a “Good” rating.
The IIHS praised the vehicle’s structure and body design for helping to enhance the vehicles small overlap front crash test performance. Test results indicate minor intrusion at the driver’s footrest, resulting in the driver’s space being at low risk of significant injury in the event of a real-world crash. Additionally, the 5 Series received a “Superior” rating in front crash prevention when the vehicle is equipped with available Frontal Collision Warning that includes either City Collision Mitigation or Extended Collision Mitigation.
The newest generation 5 Series is the most innovative version built yet, with standard and available safety features that include Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Evasion Aid, Cross Traffic Alert, Dynamic Stability Control, Dynamic Traction Control, Cornering Brake Control, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go and much more.
