Looking for an Expert’s Take on the 2018 BMW i3? Ask KBB.com.
Recently, an expert at Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com reviewed the 2018 BMW i3, taking care to point out that the sporty, quick vehicle offers both quirky styling and advanced technology — making it an electric vehicle that truly stands out from the competition.
The electric motor in the i3 gets it power from a lithium-ion battery and cranks out 170 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque. Boasting an electric-only driving range of 114 miles, the i3 can still dash to a 0-60 mph time of 7.2 seconds — which is fast enough to leave a bunch of small cars in its emissions-free wake. Best of all? That torque is delivered immediately, so the vehicle accelerates immediately and continuously.
One caveat: Since there’s no mechanical transmission, there aren’t any gear changes to slow down your momentum — so the vehicle’s acceleration tends to have a slingshot effect. With power delivered to the rear wheels, the reviewer noted that the i3 offers better handling than many of its rivals. In fact, he commented that the i3 is a fun car to drive once you get used to its power delivery and regenerative brakes.
